Morzine isn’t only popular because of its amazing skiing, it’s also pretty good when it comes to the après and nightlife.
Over the last few years the party offering in town has dramatically increased with fantastic new venues popping up all over the place. Whatever your party style, there will be something to suit you in our lively, snowy resort.
In town itself
Cafe Chaud has been around for years now but had a major revamp three years ago and is now one of the most popular party hotspots in Morzine. It’s an infamous seasonnaire venue so the crowd is on the younger side, but it has a cracking programme with music for all tastes. Think drum and bass nights, punk sessions and DJs from around the world. Its popular beer pong night is legendary around Morzine too. Be prepare for a rowdy but fun night at this after hours venue. The Cavern is an oldie but a goodie. It’s a late night venue for everyone, and the crowd there is always a real mix of ages, holidaymakers, residents and seasonnaires. Playing an eclectic mix of pop and disco classics, it’s a great place to head to if you fancy dancing into the early hours of the morning. You can find the Cavern nestled in amongst loads of other great bars and clubs as well, so you can always give them a whirl if you’re not enjoying The Cavern.
You’ve got The Tibetan Cafe next door which is the cheesiest of the bars in town. After a fire there last year, it had a revamp and is great for an early evening dance. The party is always quick to get going in the Tibetan. On the other side of The Cavern is Coyotes, which has pool tables and also plenty of fromage to go round. It’s a younger, rowdier crowd in here but always good for a laugh. If you’re after the kind of party that trickles well into the early hours of tomorrow and you want it to include shots, dancing and a guaranteed hangover, then Opera is your after hours venue. This little underground club has been in Morzine for as long as we can remember and it never fails to provide if you are really up for a memorable party.
On the slopes
Avoriaz has a brand new treat in store for you this year and you won’t be disappointed. There was a feeling that the resort was missing a main party spot for keen apres goers, so we’re pleased to report The Folie Douce came in, all guns blazing, to save the day. This amazing apres venue is new this year and is already going down a storm. With live music, shows and other entertainment, the team behind the Alps-wide concept has really filled a gap in the market. You’ll find Folie Douce bars in most of the main resorts around the alps including Chamonix, Val d’Isere and Meribel/Courchevel, so the team really knows what they’re doing. Apres parties finish in time for you to get the last Prodains telecabine down and continue the party in Morzine. If you’re skiing Morzine side or are looking for something slightly tamer than the madness of the Folie Douce, then the Tremplin at the base of the Pleney never disappoints.
The party gets going at the Tremplin anytime from 16:00 most days, and there is usually a DJ on hand to help it on its way. The food at the Tremplin is also fantastic, and the mix of clientele means everyone enjoys a bit of a party at this classic venue. Happy Hours is also a not to be missed, all day party spot. Sitting at the bottom of the Ardent home run, this great bar is one of the most popular seasonnaire and holidaymaker hangouts. Its apres parties are legendary as is its delicious food menu. There are DJs and live bands playing most evenings, with the party getting started quite early. It can be pretty lively and it’s quite easy to get stuck in Ardent if you miss the last bus. So (without sounding like your mother) make sure you plan how you’re going to get home.
Also new this year is Laury’s Bar. The Paradis nightclub is no more and has been replaced by this classy cocktail bar and cabaret venue. It’s brought to you by the same guys as Cafe Chaud, who know how to throw a good party. Laury’s is going for a slightly more upmarket feel than it’s sister bar, with an extensive cocktail menu, some great DJs and live entertainment, and a more chilled out vibe. The Hideout restaurant above it is a great place to start your evening, and you can then mooch downstairs to enjoy some late night beats at this fabulous new addition to the Morzine party scene. It would be rude to talk about parties and not mention Montriond’s famous Marmotte d’Or. This tabac style bar is off the beaten track, but well worth a visit if you like a night with a live band. The quirky venue has an extensive programme of bands playing at it throughout the winter, including some of the most popular acts on the circuit. It gets pretty busy though, so expect a lively atmosphere and not much space for dancing.
