Morzine Snow Report: 10th January 2014

Spring like conditions on the slopes in Avoriaz

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

Today was another mild, sunny day in Morzine and Avoriaz with conditions closer to what we'd expect in March or April.

It's almost hard to believe that last Sunday there was powder everywhere, now conditions have become very spring-like with mild temperatures causing melt/freeze on the higher pistes and just melting lower down.

On the sunny, lower slopes like Zorre and the cliff side access to Avoriaz the snow is very slushy and in some places quite thin. Higher up fortunately the snow is much better and although a little firm in some places, the wind blown top of Haute Forts and Arare is quite treacherous, the pistes are running well especially in Chavanettes above Avoriaz.

As I mention in the last report the "Baby Park" is open and attracting a good crowd and the half pipe is now shaped and open. The Air Bag in the big Arare Park is now up and running too.

We are still confined to the pistes at the moment but on the whole they are in good condition and we had a great afternoon cruising around in the sun. Fortunately we are due some snow after the weekend and hopefully by Tuesday there will be a fresh 10cm on the pistes. We're fine at the moment but another mild week like this and the runs are going to start to suffer.
