Morzine Snow Report: 12th February 2014

A perfect day in the sunshine

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

The sun has shone all day here in the Portes du Soleil bathing the slopes of Morzine in warm almost spring-like sunshine.

Today I headed out of the Morzine/ Avoriaz area and into Switzerland for the first time this winter. Heading off the back of Mossettes down one of the Champery couloirs we found that the snow in the shaded north-facing sections of the off piste was in pretty good condition still, even though yesterday it saw alot of traffic. The south facing, off-piste slopes around Crosets and Morgins were suffering under the strength of the sun but the pistes everywhere were in perfect condition.

We spent the morning cruising around the Crosets bowl and as I said the pistes were excellent condition. Running fast but grippy and under the beautiful cloudless sky it was an almost perfect morning. The sun was warm today and although it was beautiful we can't have too many days like this in February without the snow suffering later in the season.

The weather forecast for the next few days promises a big dump of snow on Thursday night but the threat of rain on Friday night. Fingers crossed the freezing level will drop and we'll get more snow on Friday too. If we do when the sun comes out again we'll enjoy more amazing days like today.
