Morzine Snow Report: 17th January 2014

Powder; There's White Gold in them there Hills

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

This morning there was a fresh layer of snow lying on the ground down at 1000m. Morzine was once again a winter wonderland and with ten centimetres of snow on the roof of my car imaginations began whirring as to how much snow had fallen up in Avoriaz and beyond.

Although the clouds were low and visibility was quite limited there was 25-30cm of fresh snow on the ground and in the trees there was plenty of great snow and we did two or three laps in the powder down the side of the Downhill run from the top of Arare. The snow was light and deep enough for float without being heavy or difficult to move in.

As the skies started to clear we moved over to the Mossettes bowl to enjoy some of the more open faces there. The snow here was even better and not being hampered by the trees we had the best run of the day down the side of the Mossettes bowl onto the Abricotine piste. A few laps of that and we called it a day.

The little time we spent on the pistes today, getting from face to face, was good. The snow is in great condition and pistes are benefiting from a top up.

The powder today was the best I have ridden this season, not as deep as last years snow but the best this year by far. Winter arrived late this year but a few more days like today and there won't be any complaints.
