Morzine Snow Report: 21st January 2014

Not much to see & busy in the trees

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

We had five centimetres of snow last night in Morzine and Avoriaz and it looked like the skies might clear this afternoon and let us enjoy the new layer covering the pistes and trees.

Alas no. The clouds stayed low all day and there was very little to see except in the trees. I headed up Super Morzine and over to the Linderets trees with most of the rest of the people who made it onto the hill today. Considering how quiet the slopes have been lately they were unusually busy today as everyone had the same idea of skiing in the trees.

The snow was very good but as this area was so congested it was suffering and icy patches were appearing at the top of Prolays and on sections of Combe a Foret ("Star Wars"). In some places the lift queues were getting a little long but never more than a minute or two was spent in the queue.

So conditions weren't great today but there is plenty to look forward to. The Stash is now open and most of the modules now have enough snow to make them rideable and the temperature was much lower today than it has been recently. So tomorrow, when the sun comes out the snow will be mostly untouched and in great condition and as there is more snow forecast for the weekend things are looking good.
