Morzine Snow Report: 3rd February 2014

Perfect Clear Skies & Fresh Snow

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

The forecasters got it wrong today. Morzine was supposed to have patchy clouds but today was a bluebird, not a cloud in the sky.

The fifteen centimetres of snow that came down at the weekend has made a huge difference to the pistes and, even more so, the off piste.

We headed up to the top of Chaux Fleurie and dropped down towards Ardent on the off-piste route known as Satellite. The snow was deep enough to ride comfortably and although the sun was out and it was pretty warm the snow hadn't started to change as we were up quite early. There were a few tracks already in the run, despite our best efforts to get up early but there are still plenty of spots with fresh snow on them.

The pistes were in pretty good condition too although it does seem that the slopes were busier today than they were last week. We're not into the holiday season yet but there are definately more people on the mountain now that we're into February.

There was a competition on in the halfpipe in Avoriaz today as the Junior Freestyle Tour continues, but the pipe and park will be open to the public again soon.

The forecast is for the clouds to move in this week and there might even be some rain on Thursday. Fingers crossed the forecasters have it wrong again.
