Morzine Snow Report: 5th January 2014

Great Pistes & Powder after a Weekend of Mixed Weather

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

It was a weekend of mixed weather in Morzine and Avoriaz. Saturday was horrible, wet and raining with limited visability, Sunday was a different story altogether.

The freezing level dropped last night so that there was a thin layer of snow on the ground in Morzine but up in Avoriaz there was a fresh half metre.

There was powder to be had today but the cover is still not complete across the whole mountain and with the avalanche rating at 4/5 caution needs to be exercised.

The lower pistes are a little icy but the higher you head the better the snow becomes and we spent a sunny afternoon skiing in the Randfolly bowl in the back of Les Gets and the Chavannes run was also in great condition. Best of all though is the fact that the slopes are almost empty now that the holiday season is over.

The forecast is sunshine for the most of coming week and with quiet slopes it looks like it's coming to be a good week.
