Morzine Snow Report: 9th February 2014

A Perfect Sunday in Portes du Soleil

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

Sunday was a perfect day for snowboarding in Morzine and Avoriaz. The morning was cloudy and snowy but as Jenny Jones was riding to Britain's first ever Olympic medal on snow it was the perfect time to be on the sofa with a mug of tea.

Once we had watched Jenny win the first ever Women's Slopestyle Bronze we headed out towards Nyon just as the clouds began to part.

A few powder runs through the trees under the Fys Chairlift and it quickly became apparent that the snow had been falling harder than I first thought. The powder was knee deep and light and probably the best we have had this winter. The trees were tight and challenging but offered perfect cover as the clouds hadn't completely parted. When they did we had glorious clear skies and headed to more open terrain. The face down from the top of Pointe de Nyon was untouched and myself and my friend ventured into an open powder field to ride fresh lines all the way back to the piste.

The top section of Nyon was then closed meaning we were the only people to ski that face that day. Still hungry for more powder we headed over to Chamossiere and found more fresh snow and sunshine.

It was one of the best days of the season and with more sun coming this week hopefully we'll have more like it before the weekend.
