Another (Mostly) Sunny Week

Springtime continues

featured in Snow report Author Giles Towler, Morzine Reporter Updated

With March drawing to an end the warm weather has continued for most of the week.

Wednesday brought a change in the weather, with high winds and colder weather than the previous week.

There has since been occasional snow showers, although only about five to ten centimetres of snow has fallen.

The sun returned in force on Saturday with very warm temperatures even up the mountain.

Sunday has brought more wet weather, and hopefully some more fresh snow at the top.

Conditions are, for the most part, slushy with slower snow on the lower parts of the mountain. The busier pistes, such as the Lindarets area, have become quite chopped up. The best snow is still to be found in Fornet and Arare, and for the majority of the past week the morning offers the best conditions, while the afternoons have been better for sunbathing.

The pistes are still in good condition, albeit slow, towards the bottom of Ardent and Prodains. Things are starting to look patchy on the Pleney side, however, with large parts of the lower slopes looking increasingly bare.

The links between resorts are, for now, still open. However, the link to Morgins from Super Chatel is usually one of the first to close, so if planning a day in that direction it is worth checking.

Conditions from Avoriaz towards Super Chatel are still good and, despite the slush, the snow around Les Crosets and Champery is still mostly good.

The Avoriaz and Mt Chery parks, as well as the Avoriaz half pipes, are still well maintained although they do begin to run very slowly by the afternoon. There is no real off piste worth skiing at the moment, although everyone will be hoping for one last big snowfall before the lifts close.

The current forecast indicates that the rain will continue for most of the coming week with Wednesday currently looking like the best day. Hopefully it will mean some more fresh snow for the higher slopes.

There are currently four weeks left of winter and, after a very slow start, snow levels are now at a point where hopefully things will stay good until the very end.
