Arctic chill for Morzine
Bitter cold for the Portes du Soleil
Temperatures as low as -20ºC are expected this week as cold arctic air hits Europe and the Alps. This frigid air has at least brought sunny skies with it, which is a welcome change to the freezing fog that dominated the weather last week.
We've passed the peak holiday season, however, there can still be large queues, especially in the morning, so it's worth getting up just a little earlier to beat the rush. Pistes are generally in good condition but with cold temperatures, there are some icy patches so exercise caution especially on busier slopes.
Snowfall is set to return to Morzine from midweek, with up 40cm by the weekend, which will be a welcome top-up as there is currently no off-piste skiing to speak of.
