Avoriaz Snow Report: 10th January 2016

After the rain the snow has started again!

The stormy weather shows no sign of stopping in Avoriaz.

Despite rain in Morzine the snow has continued for most of the past week in Avoriaz.

There has been rain all the way up to the higher slopes of Avoriaz on Friday but the snow is back today and the forecasts suggest that it will only get heavier in the coming week, with some forecasts predicting up to three metres of snow in the next six days!

There were some lift closures today due to high winds - specifically the Express Interets to the top of the Arare area and the Mossettes chair linking up with Switzerland. The entire Fornet area was also closed and the only way to reach the top of the Arare was by using the Express Du Stade chair and then taking the drag lifts at the top.

The high winds have added to the lack of stability off piste, and the avalanche risk is high.

Most of the pistes are in good condition although some of the most used slopes in Lindarets are looking brown.

Visibilty is currently very poor due to the storms and finding the good snow in Lindarets or Nyon where the trees are is probably the best idea at the moment.

Mt Chery in Les Gets has finally opened for skiing, thanks to the recent storms.

Because of the rain on lower slopes The Pleney is still looking patchy although hopefully the snow this week will improve this.
