Avoriaz Snow Report: 11th December 2015

The lifts are open!

featured in Snow report Author Giles Towler, Morzine Reporter Updated

Following last weekend's early opening of part of Avoriaz, the lifts are now open for winter.

Today marked the official start of winter in the Portes Du Soleil.

As well as the areas that had been opened last weekend the Fornet area opened today for the first time this winter. The Chaux Fleurie lift which links Lindarets to Chatel will open tomorrow (12th), as well as the Mossettes lift to link up with Champery and Les Crosets.

There was some light snowfall during the week above Avoriaz and the pistes on the Arare and Fornet are in excellent condition. Off piste is still not looking good. Some people had ventured off piste but the snow was barely covering their skis and there were plenty of rocks around. The lower slopes, down to Lindarets and Ardent are quite icy at the moment, although coverage is still generally good. Rain during the week has not helped their condition.

The slopes were relatively empty today, although with the first guests due to arrive this weekend in resort, as well as the Transition music festival, it will be getting busier next week.

Those wishing to avoid the crowds should head over towards Chatel or Switzerland, which are usually quieter.

Snow is currently predicted for mid week and possibly next weekend, so hopefully conditions will be better for Christmas week, although there is still good snow to be had on the higher pistes at the moment.
