So there’s been no new snow on the horizon, but we can’t complain too much about the beautiful sunny weather in the Portes Du Soleil. Despite the lack of any snowfall over the past couple of weeks, the pistes are still in good condition up top, and there isn’t much not to love about springtime skiing here in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets

It’s a great time of year to enjoy a skiing or snowboarding holiday, because with peak holiday season over the slopes are no longer crowded, and you may find you have a piste entirely to yourself more than a couple of times a day’s skiing. It’s also much easier to find cheap accommodation in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets this time of year, there are some great last minute deals flying around if your tempted to have your share of mountain air before the season draws to a close. If you’re looking for help to improve or learn, Ski and Snowboard lessons are more likely to be available last minute too.

This week the sun has been encouraging everyone out of their ski jackets, with the temperature reaching 5C up in Avoriaz and 10C in Morzine town. The best conditions were definitely enjoyed in the mornings, when the snow was colder and pisted, because as the days crept into the afternoons the heat of sun caused the slopes to become slushy and relatively hard work at lower altitudes. The slopes up in Fornet remained in good nick most of the day, as did the nice, wide runs in Crosets. The snowparks have been busy but fun places to be, especially in the progressive La Chapelle park in Avoriaz Snowzone, which has been teaming with people learning new tricks on the kickers and rails in between relaxing in the sunshine.

The warm sunny weather is set to continue for the rest of this week, and into next so don’t neglect suncream, especially for the children if they’ve got ski lessons in the morning. Next week, there is a small dump forecast for Tuesday night, followed by some heavy snowfall on Wednesday, which is always welcomed at this time of year! Around 50cm is expected up in Avoriaz, although this could change as the weekend goes by.

Here’s hoping that the clouds deliver the fresh snowfall that snow-forecast are promising. Happy springtime skiing and snowboarding!
