Morzine Snow Report: 27th February 2015

Snow is falling again, in big flakes.......

featured in Snow report Author Ally MacLeod, Morzine Reporter Updated

After a couple days of glorious sunshine, there are large snowflakes falling again in the Portes Du Soleil and this is forecast to continue for most of the week.

Looking out the window here in Morzine, it’s pretty much a whiteout! New snow is falling once again, and shows no sign of stopping in the near future. The start of this week this last week in February saw a big dump of snow, which treated everyone to couple of good powder snow days. Experienced skiers and snowboarders stuck to the trees of the Les Lindarets to make the most of it despite the poor visibility, before heading out to spots like the Vallee de la Manche or ‘Happy Valley’ as it known around here to get their share of the fresh, white stuff in clearer skies.

The Burton Stash park once again came to life as snowboarders went to make the most of the wooden playground in the fresh snow, always giving every one on the Prolays chairlift something impressive to watch. The Avoriaz Snowzone shapers work hard to make the most of new snow to enable boarders to get the most out of all the giant features, creating lips and kickers on and off the rails, picnic benches and wall rides for endless opportunities for tricks and freeriding.

The lifts up to Avoriaz, were busy again this week, with lots of holidaymakers out here for the half term period in the Netherlands and plenty of locals coming out to make the most of the weather. The sunshine and blue skies on Wednesday and Thursday saw people flocking to restaurants and après bars up on the mountain to soak up the sun and enjoy the second best thing about skiing – aprés ski! If you’re looking for some insider tips on all the best après events just check the morznet and avorinet event calendar, we’ve got news for everything from live bands in town to big DJ parties up on the mountain.

This week steady snowfall is predicted everyday up until Wednesday so far, with around 15 – 20 cm falling everyday on average in Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets. This is great news, but skiers and snowboarders are advised to stay low and within the trees to get in some good runs in what looks like blanket white out conditions for the start of the week. Stick to the Morzine and Les Gets side, or the Les Lindarets bowl - basically anywhere with trees lining the pistes – to get the most out of the conditions.

Get those buffs and low light lenses out, the snow is falling!
