The forecast was right, and after a long wait the snow arrived in a big way this weekend. The consistent snow falling over the weekend has seen the green trees and bare slopes receive the thick blanket of snow we’ve all been hoping for.

For those who were travelling out to resort yesterday, the extent of the disruption the snow fall caused will still be a tender subject. Long delays with flights, transfers, and chaos on the snowy roads meant that many guests and holiday makers who were due to arrive Saturday only made it to resort late that night, with many more not arriving until Sunday morning. Having said that, the snows arrival is welcomed with open arms – we have been waiting on it for too long after all!

Conditions have changed dramatically over the weekend, with over 50 cm of snow piling up on Saturday and another 10cm Sunday night. The pisteurs and shapers deserve to be commended for their hard work over night, which allowed all of Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets to open fully Sunday morning. The season can now fully get underway - it’s amazing to think that only a few days ago there were mountain bikes available for rent!

The week ahead looks to be a great time to be out here, with lift pass restrictions lifted almost as soon as the forecasted snow touched base and links to Châtel in the Portes Du Soleil now accessible, the slopes will be in good nick for an enjoyable New Year’s Day ski.

Snow showers may lead to a few white outs, so if visibility is poor make sure you ski/snowboard your way over to Les Gets for beautiful tree-lined pistes, or if your up in Avoriaz, Les Lindarets and the run through The Stash park is ideal in these conditions because of the shelter provided by the trees. The snow won’t be going anywhere for the first part of the week, with temperatures of around -12 sticking around until Wednesday, before rising at the end of the week for a few days of sunshine.

It’s the news everyone’s been waiting for, so whether you’re a worker in resort or a guest on holiday for the week, you can forget about the pain of the transfer day and enjoy having a Happy New Year out skiing in Avoriaz, Morzine & Les Gets.
