Spring time snow conditions in Morzine

featured in Snow report Author Ally MacLeod, Morzine Reporter Updated

The rain won’t put a dampener on your Easter weekend, because the temperatures dropping to make it fall as snow!

We’ve been a little quiet on the snow front here at Morznet. Perhaps it’s because that anything falling from the sky has been a lot of the rain-like snow stuff you don’t want to hear about, or maybe it is that we’re in denial that the season is on its way out for this year. Regardless, we’re here to tell you the good and the bad, and make sure you make the most of the Easter week whether you’re staying in Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets or Châtel.

The past couple of weeks have seen unwelcome rainfall and increasingly heavy snow on the pistes in the Portes Du Soleil, however despite all the springtime rain and warm temperatures, the snow has remained steadfast.

The runs down into Morzine at 1000m are looking a little worse for wear, but that is to be expected at this time of year. The pistes in Avoriaz, Les Crosets and the Plaine Dranse area of Chatel still have a good base and won’t be vanishing any time soon, and after receiving a few centimetres of snow in between rain showers over the weekend, they make for fun springtime skiing.

This week the temperature is dropping to turn any April showers into April snow above 1750m. Don’t get us wrong, it will be pouring down with rain in Morzine and Les Gets town centres, but it will be falling as fresh white stuff up high! A significant dump of snow is forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning (around 20cm in total) and along with colder temperatures this should brighten up the conditions considerably for the rest of the week, with more forecast to fall at the weekend too.

Easter weeks are always a great time to enjoy some cheap last minute deals, and is a great time of year to get the kids out on the slopes to get their confidence up on their skis or boards. If you’re looking to book lesson for this weekend or next week, why not take at look at our comprehensive list of ski and snowboard schools & private instructors in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets to find great value for money lessons in just a few clicks.

Yes, it maybe have been a little drizzly at times but with more snow and some sunshine forecast for next week there still is some fantastic days skiing to be had in what’s left of this season. Just make sure you’re gear is fully waterproof and that you take ample change from warming hot chocolates or some seriously strong Grog along the way.

Along as your prepared, the mountain is yours for the taking!
