Morzine Snow Report: 4th December 2014

Snow on the way before opening weekend

After a couple of mild weeks, much of the snow on the lower slopes has melted, particularly in town. Whilst the higher slopes of Avoriaz is still holding on to some snow, Morzine is now green again.

However, with a week and a half to go till the opening weekend, there is some good news. Snow is forecast for either the start or middle of next week, arriving just in time for opening weekend.

The tourist office in Morzine are unsure at the moment if the slopes of Morzine on the Pleney will be open, as has been reported previously. After early optimism they will now have to wait and see how much snow comes next week.

Similar conditions two years ago were followed by an opening weekend of non stop snow, and then it kept on coming through December leading to one of the best winters on record. So while the webcams might not look particularly positive at the moment, the temperature is low and snow is on the way. It's not unusual for Morzine to stay green till December, and there's no need to panic just yet!

Avoriaz will be open for the Rock On Snowboard Tour, which includes a ski and snowboard test and Shaun White's band Bad Things playing a concert on the slopes. Shaun White will also be riding in Avoriaz that weekend. The tourist office is currently unsure what slopes will be open, but most - if not all - of Avoriaz should be open.
