Don't let the rain dampen your spirits!

Snow Report?…more like rain report, but thankfully the suns going to make an appearance at the end of the week.

It’s always a comforting thought to know when it rains as much as it did in Morzine and Les Gets this weekend, that other resorts in the French Alps like Les Deux Alpes and Meribel are suffering from the same depressing down pours. With the temperatures high enough for the rain to fall in Avoriaz too for a little while, there is no doubt that it put a dampener on holiday spirits in resort.

High winds forced several lifts to close on Monday in Avoriaz, and the sleet / rain continued to fall for most of the morning, perhaps one of the reasons that many skier and snowboarders from decided to cut their day short and head back down Super Morzine after a couple of hours. Luckily for anyone who prefers skiing in fairer weather have plenty to keep them occupied in the lively towns of Morzine and Les Gets, which have an abundance of French and English-owned eateries and coffee shops. Beanies Coffee Bar and Ski shop and Dotty’s Café on the high street were teaming with people. Take a look at our restaurant and bar guides to find the best places to grab everything from coffee, to brunch, lunch or a fancy evening of fine dining and wine.

Anyone hoping to chase some powder or off-piste skiing or snowboarding may now be disappointed, as the amount of snow forecast has decreased significantly from last week, with only a total of 17 centimetres falling tonight and over Wednesday daytime. It’s not all doom and gloom though! The lifts are all open again now, and the sun is coming out from Thursday onwards, which will allow everyone to maximise their days out on the slopes to make up for anything they missed at the start of the week. There are over 650km of pistes here in the Portes Du Soleil, and with new lifts linking the Super Chatel side to the PDS it’s simpler than ever to have a really good, long day out on the varied and challenging terrain across Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Crosets and Châtel.

Experienced skiers and snowboarders who are up for a challenge should take advantage of the clear skies and great visibility to tackle ‘Le Mur Suisse’ or Swiss Wall, the formidable slope with 90 % vertical drop into some man-sized moguls, a must-do for anyone’s bucket list. Beginners and sensible people can take the Chavanette lift down over it if they don’t wish to ski it.

Finally, with clear skies the views from the top of Mosettes will be spectacular, so make sure you make it up to 2227m to take in the scenery. Why not try one of the Cookie Café’s delicious, fresh pressed juices and smoothies while your there – ideal refreshment on a sunny day in the mountains!
