Portes Du Soleil Snow Report: 19th December 2015

Snow conditions for the Portes Du Soleil area

featured in Snow report Author Giles Towler, Morzine Reporter Updated

After a warm week, the first holiday makers are arriving.

Following a warm fortnight with no new snowfall, the Portes Du Soleil has still managed to open up 22 out of the 34 lifts in the area. Mossettes has just opened and has relatively good snow cover, particularly higher up.

The best skiing is still to be found up at the top of Fornet and over towards Linga. There are rocky patches on most pistes but it is possible to avoid the worst of these and reduce the risk of damaging boards and skis.

Lindarets and Arare are still holding on to the snow, although they are becoming icy, and again there are rocks coming through on the piste. Off piste skiing is very inadvisable at the current time with little to no snow off the sides of the pistes.

There is no snow forecast for the coming week, although colder temperatures mean that snowmaking should be possible in order to top up what is already on the pistes.

It has been a slow start to the winter but conditions are sure to improve in the coming weeks when the snow does arrive. For now the best advice is to stay high, stay on the piste and keep an eye out for any rocks.
