Chalet Les Mines d'Or

1. Chalet Les Mines d'Or Refuge

Located just 8km from Morzine, this lovely little chalet is a great base for hikers and mountaineers.

It has five bedrooms and can accommodate up to 13 people; open from June to September it is a quiet and friendly little place to base yourself for outdoor adventures.

All the bedrooms have a balcony with view of the Manche valley and their own bath/shower rooms. Rooms are sold on a half-board basis, so breakfast and dinner is included (as is all bedding). Due to the small capacity of the gite, booking in advanced is strongly recommended to be sure of a room.

The restaurant with a large terrace is very popular with day trippers and hikers. They serve local dishes such as fondue, tartiflette, croute, etc. They also serve daily specials as well as meat, fish and salads.

2. Golèse Refuge

Situated at 1600m between the Giffre and Manche valleys is the Golèse refuge, which is open virtually all year round now and offering overnight stay in either dormitories or private rooms and half board including a dinner full of mountain flavours.

This is a great experience to discover the mountains and breathtaking panoramas of the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc. The Golèse refuge is an ideal starting point to discover the surrounding peaks of Bostan and The Dents Blanches.

Easily accessible to all, the refuge is about 1.5 to 2 hours walking with 600m of elevation gain. This is a stopover on the GR5 route of the Tour des Dents Blanches and the starting point for numerous hikes.

For day hikers, you can stop for snacks at any time and lunch is served on their large terrace or in the dining room. There is a choice of lunch dishes and a daily special menu - it's a good idea to book. 

There is the choice to take a private room or stay in the dormitory. You can book an overnight stay only or half board. The half board option includes breakfast and dinner with delicious Savoyard specialities, including gratin and fondue. There is an option to add breakfast, a shower and a picnic basket.

3. Chalet du Graydon Refuge, near Essert Romand

This mountain hut is situated at 1335 metres and has space for 16 people.

In the heart of Chablais, this refuge is nestled in an alpine hamlet at the foot of the Roc d'Enfer. It offers a peaceful setting in the Haute Savoie overlooking the Morzine Valley.

From this cosy, unguarded chalet, ideal for families and groups of friends, you can enjoy a variety of activities: hiking, ski touring, and snowshoeing. The St Jean d'Aulps - La Grande Terche ski area is nearby.

Reservations must be made by phone to the FFCAM club manager.

Group rates apply for parties of 9 or over and stays for FFCAM affiliated guides or members are free.

4. Cabane du Col de Cou

This refuge was a former customs house and is at the crossroads of Morzine, Samoens and Champery, occupying a unique position with breathtaking views

At an altitude of 1920m this cabane has recently been transformed into a 38-bed mountain refuge. 

It will be open all year round, welcoming hikers between Switzerland and France. This refuge is located on the GR5 route, the Via Alpina and the Tour des Dents Blanches.

It is easily accessed by a short hike from Morzine of 7km with around 500m elevation.

5. L'Abricotine Refuge

Open in both summer and in winter this mountain restaurant and refuge is in the perfect spot right in the heart of the Portes du Soleil area.

A great place to enjoy the mountain, traditional Savoyard food and spend a night under the stars in this traditional style refuge. With two dormitories sleeping 7 and 18 people, plus a relaxation room and restaurant, you will have everything you need!

Open between mid-December and the end of April and again in June until the end of August, but group bookings may be possible (minimum of 10 people) outside of the normal opening times so it is worth calling them to enquire.

Accommodation is on a half-board, bed and breakfast or bed-only basis; showers are included in the price but bedding is charged at a few euros extra so you may wish to bring a sleeping bag. The restaurant is also open for lunch and snacks during the day.
