Alberto Contador wins Criterium Prologue in Les Gets
Cycling's elite riders made light work of Mont Chery in Les Gets
The 2016 Criterium du Dauphine started in Les Gets yesterday with the prologue race up Mont Chery.
An exciting precursor to the Tour de France, the Criterium sees the worlds best riders taking on a huge route of 1147 kilometres over 8 different stages around France.
The prologue, a 3.9km climb with a punishing 15% incline to finish, saw Alberto Contador take the lead, with Chris Froome in third place after Richie Porte. It was all over in 11,36 minutes when Contador crossed the finish line, then Richie Porte 6 seconds after, and Froome 13 seconds after him.
Today the riders set off on a gruelling 186 km stage from Cluses to Saint-Vulbas, and then continue all the way to Sunday riding between 140 - 180 km per day. You can track all the action ahead as the race continues here, with the leaders board updated on a daily basis.
On 23rd July you'll get another opportunity to see some of these riders as the penultimate stage of the 2016 Tour de France finishes in Morzine.
