Water Ban in Effect Across the Haute Savoie Region

Water levels have dropped so low, we’re being asked to watch our water usage

A hose-pipe ban has been brought in across the Haute-Savoie after weeks of warm weather have left water levels drastically low.

Pictures taken from around the region show places like Lac Montriond, the River Dranse and Dereche drying up in Morzine.

The prefect of the Haute Savoie has decided to restrict water usage from today [15th July 2015] to try and save water. People living in the region are asked not to use car washes or fill private swimming pools. It’s forbidden to water gardens, sports pitches and golf courses between 8 in the morning and 8 at night. There are also restrictions on agriculture and farming.

Irrigation isn’t allowed between 10 and 6, however it’s still OK to provide water for animals, to water orchards and vegetable and flower crops.

These measures don’t apply when it comes to anything that affects public safety, like putting out fires, and they will be adjusted as the summer goes on if we get any rain, or if water levels increase.

From the heavy rains and floods of May we now face a challenge of a very different kind!
