Closed Grades Combes closes route to Avoriaz

Big queues caused by closed Grandes Combes

The hot weather has pushed the avalanche hazard risk from 3/5 to 4/5 and all over the Portes du Soleil the sun drenched off piste slopes are showing signs off creep and actual avalanches.

In most cases this is not causing too much of a problem but one slide has closed the Grandes Combes chairlift. Normally a closed lift would not be news worthy but without this lift one of the routes up to Avoriaz is not open.

Travelling to Avoriaz from Les Prodians is now only possible from the Prodians bubble and although the Stade piste is open you have to ski all the way down to the bubble to get back up the hill. This is causing long queues and with the last week of the French holidays looming the wait at the bubble could be a over an hour.

The Grande Combes chairlift has been closed for two days now and it is not clear when it will reopen. So, if you are coming out this weekend try and use either the Super Morzine bubble or the Ardents bubble to get up to Avoriaz. It might save you some time.

We'll let you know as soon as the lift is running again.
