Pleney Lift Closure: Official Update

Following last week's news that the Pleney lift is set to close for the entire summer, we can now officially reveal what lies behind the decision and the contingency plans being put into place for the 2013 mountain biking season in the Portes du Soleil.

The Morzine-Avoriaz Tourist Office have confirmed that the Pleney gondola will not run this summer season to allow for a new lift to be built in time for winter 2013/2014. The new and improved Pleney will not only have an improved passenger capacity but will also provide better access to the winter skiing and summer biking in Morzine. Ground level access to the top and bottom lift stations will allow for quicker access and ease of use for skiers and bikers.

The following steps are being taken to minimise the impact on the thousands of bikers set to descend upon the Portes du Soleil this summer:

• Early opening date of 15th of June for of the Super Morzine gondola and the 'Zore' chairlift. Starting on the 28th of June the lifts will start running at the earlier opening time of 08:30am and it is hoped that the 50% increase in the flow-rate will ensure free-flowing traffic on the hill
• A bus service adapted for carrying Mountain Bikes will be run daily between the resorts of Morzine and Les Gets from the 28th of June to the 1st of September 2013 inclusive. This bus service will be reserved for those with a Portes du Soleil lift pass.
• The Mountain Bike tracks between the resorts of Morzine and Les Gets will be marked out, signposted and maintained.

Further plans are underway to ensure the Mountain Biking in the Pleney area and improve the capacity and flow of the lift links between Morzine and Les Gets through integration of the "Crusaz" and "Mouilles" chairlifts. As soon as we know the exact details of these plans, we will update you.
