Discover and explore the slate mines of Morzine.

Slate used to be the main source of development and funds for Morzine, before tourism. The valley created jobs and money by quarrying the slate that can still be seen on many of the Morzine roofs of chalets and buildings today. The slate is known for its high quality, durability and artistry.

You can tour the still working mines and learn more about the history of slate and the Morzine mines, a slate worker will guide you around his workshop showing you the techniques he uses for moulding and working with the slate.

Upcoming Events

Morzine hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. The biggest winter festival is the Rock des Pistes week in March, where live bands play up on the pistes, with many other concerts being held in resort during the evenings. Highlights in summer include Crankworx and the Pass'portes du Soleil (two large mountain biking events), and the Spartan obstacle course race.
