Etape du Tour re-routed

Last minute change to the 2016 route

This weekend 15 thousand riders descend on Morzine for the Etape and there’s been a last minute change.

If you’re one of the 15 thousand people taking part in this weekend’s huge road biking race in Morzine – you’ll be shocked to hear that one of the major climbs in the route has been removed from the course.

The Ramaz, which was the third out of four major cols on the Etape du Tour has been taken out because of safety concerns. Road works have over run and authorities are worried about falling rocks.

No additional climbing has been added to the route and there are a lot of disappointed people who were hoping to ride the exact route the Tour de France riders will be tackling in 2 weeks time. It’s hoped that the road will be fit for the likes of Froome and Contador but a decision will be made nearer to the time.

The revised route takes riders from Megeve, over the Col des Aravis, the Col de la Columbiere then down through Cluses to Taninges and over the Joux Plane into Morzine. The course which was 146km is now 122km long and 1000 metres of climbing has been taken out.

There will still be extensive road closures in place around the Portes du Soleil and start times and the original organisational plans are being kept the same.
