January events in Morzine

This is the month the locals get their town (and slopes) back for a little while anyway. January is a great time to visit the resort, there are a couple of skiing competitions on, which are great to watch whilst you're up the mountains, but generally it's quieter and the cold temperatures keep the snow nice and crisp.

Burton Mystery Series

With a twist on the legendary Stash Banked. All shredders welcome! The Burton Stash is in the Les Lindarets sector of Avoriaz and can be reached by the six-seater Prolays chairlift. The last weekend of January.

February events in Morzine

February is school holidays time and the resort is full of families enjoying their Spring half term break. There will be lots of activities and events put on by the ski companies and the tourist office, so be sure to keep an eye on our events calendar.

Torchlit descents

Every week during the school holidays ESF ski schools organise a torchlit descent in both Les Gets and Morzine, followed by a fireworks display. 

Valentine's Day

There will be no shortage of places to go to celebrate with your loved one whilst in the land of romance. Be sure to book early if there's that certain spot you would like to go with your special someone.

March events in Morzine

Always a busy month in terms of events happening locally and music festivals dominate the events calendar in March with Rock the Pistes all around the Portes du Soleil and Snowboxx in Avoriaz. Here are a couple of our favourites highlighted below, but take a look at our events calendar for what else is on in Morzine in March.

Rock the Pistes music festival

The best of French and International rock and pop music is featured in this week long event high up on the pistes of the Portes du Soleil ski area. And it's all included in the price of your lift pass! 

April events in Morzine

It's the Champions ski race on the Nyon Plateau and you'll find events and activities for all the family over the Easter holidays.

As we get close to the end of the winter season, in Morzine it's time for some last runs before putting away our gear for another year, and enjoying some closing parties.

May events in Morzine

Usually a quiet time of the year in resort although you will find the lifts open for mountain bikers at the weekends in May. 

Public holidays and the Pont weekend

If you're here during the month of May, the French manage to fit in five public holidays and mid-May they ‘font le pont’… bridging the Ascension Day public holiday that falls on a Thursday with the next day and making a four-day weekend of it. You can expect plenty of relaxing, holidaying and closure of any public or municipal establishments - schools, post offices, banks, mairies, libraries etc etc…  

June events in Morzine

Summer arrives with an array of festivities, including the French national day of music.

Fête de la Musique

The Fête de la Musique is the celebration that takes place every summer solstice on 21st June in cities, towns and villages across France. More than a music festival, the Morzine Fête de la Musique is a free event that spills out from the bars and restaurants onto the streets and encompasses every type of music imaginable, from local amateur teen bands to professional classical musicians, from club DJ’s to traditional folk bands.

Pass'Portes du Soleil MTB event

The Pass'Portes du Soleil event sets the start of the summer season - three days of mountain biking across the Portes du Soleil. The classic circuit is 80km long, it includes 7,000m of downhill and 1,000m of uphill, with 15 lifts giving you access to nine different resorts with some great riding along the way. 

All routes use the areas comprehensive lift network meaning that much of the uphill work is done from the comfort of a chairlift and all you have to do is enjoy the downhill. Likewise, for hardcore downhillers, options are available to deviate off the main drag onto some steeper, more technical sections where you can really put those downhill bikes through their paces. 

July events in Morzine

As the weather ramps up, so do the number of events, and you'll find the resort is buzzing with activity.

Spartan Trifecta weekend

The world's leading obstacle race company brings its competition to Morzine over one weekend, with races over 5km, 13km, 21km and 50km.

Bastille Day

Celebrated across the whole of France with a bang...well, several in fact, fireworks always feature heavily. And the residents of Morzine celebrate this national holiday with as much enthusiasm as the rest of the country. Various activities are held across France on the 14th, in memory of the storming of the Bastille on the same date in 1789. Traditionally the fireworks display normally starts off between 22:00-23:00. 

Tour de France

The Alps have played a large part in the race over the years, with the gruelling mountain climbs providing some of the most exciting spectacles of the event. The route changes slightly each year, taking in different towns, villages and cols along the way. Even if the race doesn't pass near where you are this summer, you can guarantee that it will still be avidly watched in bars and cafés around the country, with everyone joining in to cheer on the famous yellow jersey! 

August events in Morzine

Always a busy month in resort with a multitude of sporting events for the those fit enough, crazy enough, or courageous enough - so keep an eye on our events calendar for updates.

Trail des Hauts Forts

Morzine mountain trail race held in August. It is an all natural trail runners race with a short (23km) and a long (43km) version of the Trail des Hauts Forts. The route takes you through three mountain passes around the Hauts Forts peaks and through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Portes du Soleil area.

Morzine - Montriond - Avoriaz Triathlon

This is a great programme for triathlon enthusiasts, begin with a swim in Lac Montriond, followed by cycling up the Avoriaz climb, featured in the Tour de France and the technical descent to Morzine. Finish with a scenic run along the banks of the Dranse river. 

September events in Morzine

A rather quieter month in Morzine as the summer tourists leave and a sense of calm returns to the valley. With the exception of a certain motor rally, there won't be too much going on, although the lifts and bike parks will be open until the middle of the month. Check our events calendar to keep up to date with anything that might be happening.

Rally Mont Blanc

For petrol heads in the Alps, the Mont Blanc Rally is one of the big events of the summer. First held in 1947, it was originally organised as part of the Fête d’Evian and was known as the “Rally Paris-Evian”. Over the years, the rally’s course and focus shifted and it became the “Rally Evian – Mont-Blanc” and then, in its tenth year, the “Rally Mont-Blanc Iseran”. It was not until 1961 that it finally became the “Rally Mont-Blanc”. 

October events in Morzine

The summer months are a distant memory, and in October the locals enjoy some autumnal bike riding and hiking before the first snow falls.

November events in Morzine

Not much on in terms of events, usually a time when everyone is taking a well earned break before December arrives and the opening of the winter season.

Rock on Snow

To kick off winter in some serious style - you'll be able to test all the latest equipment on the slopes of Avoriaz for free, get advice on the right gear for your chosen discipline, and take part in events, contests and the have-a-go stand. There will also be free concerts and parties throughout the weekend. 

Christmas in Morzine

The festive season in the snowy Alps is always magical and every year there is some sort of celebration in resort to mark the occasion. Christmas in Morzine officially starts at the beginning of December when the Christmas lights are switched on. 

The night is marked with vin chaud, hot chocolate and music. From then on you can enjoy Christmas concerts, festive markets and live music throughout town as the resort gears up for Christmas and New Year. 

New Year's Eve in Morzine

Come midnight the hoards of merry revellers head the centre of town for the big countdown – not an official event as such, more of a long-held tradition. On the stroke of midnight you are advised to duck as champagne corks and fireworks are unleashed in celebration! 

Likewise, planning ahead is advised if you have your heart set on ringing in the New Year in a particular bar or club some of them are ticket only, so enquire in advance to avoid disappointment!
