John Kerry, US Secretary of State and an avid cyclist is returning home to the US today after breaking his leg in a cycling accident on the Col de la Colombiere.

Kerry, 71, had been in Geneva for talks with his Iranian counterpart and had arranged to take time out for a spot of cycling. Unfortunately he hit a kerb on his bike which led him to crash, breaking his femur, close to the point where he'd already had recent hip surgery. He was flown to a hospital in Geneva for treatment.

Mr Kerry was due to fly on to Paris and Madrid after his stay in Geneva, but has had to cancel these engagements due to his accident. He is returning to the US today.
