Les Gets Opening Weekend

The first lifts open for summer 2016

Les Gets had the first of their early opening weekends this past weekend, allowing riders to get a closer look at the slopestyle course for Crankworx.

Every year Les Gets opens a couple of lifts early at the weekends, starting from the end of May. Despite some late snowfall in early May this year the tracks were still clear enough to open for the 28th and 29th.

The Chavannes Express and the Nauchets Express were the two lifts that were open providing access to a number of mountain bike trails for all abilities.

There was still some snow on the winter pistes but only one small patch on the main Chavannes red bike run. Conditions on Saturday were generally good. There was some rain in the morning but it cleared up by about 11:30. The tracks were muddy but not too slippery and they dried out a bit in the afternoon sun..

Sunday, however, was a different story. Heavy rain on Saturday evening, including a thunder storm, carried on into Sunday and very few people ventured up in those conditions.

The tracks could do with a bit of maintenance, but the trail shapers seem to have been kept busy with preparations for Crankworx.

The bottom part of the Chavannes red has been closed off as it provides access to the slopestyle course for Crankworx. There is a northshore section in the trees leading to a huge drop into the course itself. There are some monster jumps being built plus another northshore section with a wall ride towards the bottom of the course.

The location of the course means that everyone will be able to enjoy the show without having to hike up the hill.

The weekend might have ended as a bit of a washout but summer is definitely on it's way and hopefully by the time more lifts start opening on the 11th June the sunny days will be back!
