Blankets, wine, food and a film at one of the regions most beautiful spots. You'd be daft to miss it...

The lake at Montriond is a stunning destination at the best of times with crystal clear green waters and views across the mountains which stretch for miles. But on a Wednesday evening throughout the summer it gets even more magical.

The team at the Boomerang restaurant have come together with Summer Film Morzine to put on this years popular outdoor cinema nights. After enjoying an incredible three course meal you huddle up on a nearby grassy bank and enjoy a film with one of the most incredible backdrops in the world.

This week the choice of film was "180 degrees south" - a story of adventure and fulfilling life long dreams. Climbers attempt some of the hardest peaks in Chile in the footsteps of their legends. It's a story of personal achievement and appreciation of nature. I can't imagine a better place to have watched it. It's the penultimate cinema evening of the summer and we've been treated to films like Jaws and Star Wars since the team started running the nights at the beginning of the season. They're proving extremely popular with locals and tourists and when I tell you about the food you'll understand why.

You arrive at the lake house and make your way to the bar where there were amazing gin cocktails on offer and snacks to ward your anticipatory hunger pains away. Drinks are around 5-7 euros so don't break the bank. You then make your way outside to rows of wooden benches where you sit overlooking the lake for your three course dinner.

We were lucky enough to team up with a great group which made the night even more special. For starters we were given a lovely plate of sushi. A rare treat in the mountains. Delicious and very well made. For mains the meat eaters amongst us had a full plate of pork and crackling to tuck into. He said it's "the best crackling I've had in ages" and promptly polished off the lot. I had a beautiful plate of bean stew, vegetables and sweet potatoes. Again, I finished the lot - its smokey flavours and presentation were too good to leave! Then we get to pudding. The pudding was out of this world. White chocolate cheesecake with raspberry coulis and a golden crunchy base. It was so good we were all actually sad when we'd finished our helpings, desperately hoping there would be some seconds from somewhere! As our new friends said "where else can you eat pork and cheesecake outside, with an amazing view and then watch a film?" The answer - only here. Because it's so special. It's 25€ for three courses but well worth the cost.

By this point the sun had dipped behind the mountain and like in a cinema - the light had dimmed. So we all took our places on the bank to watch the film. Full from our delicious meal, it didn't take long for us to get comfortable and allow ourselves to drift into the incredible adventure world of 180 degrees south. It's a film worth seeing if you want to be inspired to rid your life of stress and focus on the beautiful things in life. An ideal theme for a bunch of people who love the mountains and alpine life.

The team have created something special with the cinema nights and it's well worth trying out if you like good food, good entertainment and stunning landscapes. Votes are still being cast to find out what the last film of the season will be - so watch this space. And if you can't wait for a night of entertainment at the lake then don't worry. This Saturday it's the faux de lac. Firework night at lake Montriond is guaranteed to be a huge success as always. So take a blanket and a picnic and settle down for a night by the water. You won't regret it.

The final film is going to be on 26th August. Keep an eye on the Summer Film facebook page for more details.
