La Grange Restaurant is hidden down a little back road but less than 100m from tourist office in the centre of Morzine and only 100m from the bottom of the Pleney, making it a great alternative to eating up the mountain.

The inside of the building is gorgeous - traditional mountain decor in old wood and barn style equipment around the walls.

The owners have decided to leave plenty of space between the tables which I guess is one of the reasons it makes it popular with families and mothers with buggies who lunch here together with a good smattering of locals.

The menu is local Savoyarde with tasty alternatives to appease kids and fussy eaters. You've even got veggie options, which is rare for the carnivore nation that is France!

I stopped by in during Half term on a week day, so there were quite a lot of young kids and families in, but it wasn't too noisy or over-crowded. Despite being past 2pm the restaurant was still half full with leisurely lunches seemingly popular. The waiters were really patient with the complexities of English family half term orders (in fact they had the patience of saints - even throwing in jokes and banter whilst memorizing the orders in a split second!)

I was eyeing up the Menu bistrot which was 13.10 euros for the plat du jour, desert du jour and a coffee. What a bargain! It was a faux filet of beef with herb butter which came with a huge portion of sautee potatoes and some tasty roasted carrots. The meat was great quality (especially considering the price). It was cooked to perfection, melting in my mouth and was cooked just as I asked - perfect!

To make a nice change the bread basket was fresh ciabatta, which around here was a small novelty and pretty darn tasty too!

I have to say I was bowled over by my choice of the 2 Deserts du jour: Creme caramel won the day over the alternative 2 scoops of ice cream. The size of the Creme Caramel was impressive, and what a taste: sweet, soft and even the presentation was fantastic. This'll give you enough energy to tackle those moguls, deep powder or ski tour until sundown!

I'm not sure if I've found a lunch menu comprising of two courses and coffee this cheap in my travels across the Alps. Yet more impressive than the price was the fact it was delicious - I'll definitely return here and recommend to any friends heading to or skiing through Morzine whether for the day or a week.
