Lac Montriond is spectacular in both winter and summer. In the colder months, the trees that surround it are dusted with snow and the surface of the water is completely frozen. In the summer, the water reflects the bright blue of the sky and the stunning green of the trees. No matter the season, Lac Montriond is a special place to visit.
The Tyrolia sits nestled back from the main road in Morzine and its unassuming appearance means it often gets overlooked. However, looks can be deceiving! It's a hidden gem in Morzine that serves delicious food throughout the year, including during the inter-season. The Marmotte d’Or in Montriond may look like a traditional French tabac from the entrance, complete with a counter selling cigarettes, lottery tickets and quick snacks, but step beyond that and you’ll find something entirely different - and surprisingly special. Saturday started as many do; hungover yet eager to get up the mountain! We rushed out having not had any breakfast, and skied until our stomachs could be heard rumbling all over the Portes du Soleil.
This renowned restaurant is in the ideal location in the centre of Morzine, close to both the Telepherique du Pleney and the Office du Tourisme where there is plenty of parking. It is a popular choice among both locals and holiday makers alike and I was glad to finally be able to give it a try.
The Bout du Lac sits at the far end of Lake Montriond and its beautiful waterside terrace boasts incredible views of the lake itself but also of the beautiful surrounding countryside, mountains and alpine meadows.
