Luxury home massage with Mobile Mountain Massage

Wind down in style after a hard day on the slopes

featured in Activity reviews Author Alice Gregr, Morzine Reporter Updated

Once you get home after a hard day on the slopes, it's very tempting to snuggle into your comfies and sit in front of the fire with a glass of something chilled. However, sometimes getting a massage to relieve those aching muscles can be essential, especially if you’re hoping to be up and on the mountain again in the morning.

Mobile Mountain Massage has been running in Morzine and the surrounding area for the last 4 years. Run by qualified masseuse, Nicole Coryton, it offers the chance to have massages in your chalet, home or hotel. To really test out what she offers, I willingly volunteered to have a massage at my home. (Somebody had to do it after all). All Nicole asks for is a little bit of room to set up her table and the rest, she provides.

Nicole came to my flat and wasn’t phased by our barking dog and a couple of cats. It wasn’t the ideal place for complete peace, quiet and relaxation but once the pets quietened down, Nicole had all the equipment with her to really set the scene.

She brings her own heated massage table, music, oils and blankets and sets up in whichever room you think best. She needs enough space for the table, which is about the length of a 6 foot tall person with their arms up. I have to say it was a little strange stripping down to my underwear in the kitchen but she made me feel really comfortable and relaxed.

Mobile Mountain Massage offers a range of treatments including deep tissue massages, classic massages, sports massages, back and leg revivers and also facial and hot stone massages. Nicole also specialises in pregnancy massages so if you’re on a skiing holiday with friends or family but you can’t actually ski because you’re expecting, you could treat yourself to a specialist massage instead. On this occasion I had a full body, deep tissue massage with a bit of a focus on a pretty achy back and I have to say, it was incredible. I was left feeling like a new woman!

a massage taking place

For the massage, Nicole uses a range of oils to suit your skin type. For me she used a base of pure grape seed oil and then because of my dry skin she added rose oil to add moisture to my skin. She used towels and blankets to cover the parts of the body that she wasn’t working on, so I never felt uncomfortable or exposed. A deep tissue massage aims to relieve areas of tension and release knots - I clearly needed a lot of work, knots kept cropping up all over the place. The sensation when they began to release was fantastic. I felt all the tension I’d built up from years of office and computer work just float away.

My massage lasted for around 45 minutes and focused on my back, neck and legs. I haven’t had a massage in a long time so it took me a while to relax into it. However, I felt very at home with Nicole. She’s easy to chat to, is really lovely and makes you feel very at ease throughout the massage. She explains what she’s doing or what she has found if you want her to but she’s also happy for you to fall asleep if that’s what you want to do. By the end I was struggling to keep my eyes open.

Prices range from 40 euros for 30 minutes through to 95 euros for a longer session including hot stones. The idea of mobile massage is fantastic in Morzine because when temperatures reach their lowest and when it’s snowing heavily, who wants to drag themselves away from a snuggly warm chalet?

Why not book in with Nicole? She’ll be round in no time to help ease those aches and pains and get you fit and ready for another day on the slopes.
