From Road Biking to the Mountain

Even before the snow disappeared and the pistes were shut, road cyclists were out in force across the Portes Du Soleil, making the most of the amazing weather we had in the last few weeks of the season. In the same way, we started to see more and more mountain bikes coming out of the woodwork giving us a little glimpse of what the area will look like in the summer.

Morzine Activity Review: 14th September 2011

An epic mountain bike ride to report upon today. Last week we made the journey from Chamonix to Morzine across some remote mountain terrain under deep blue skies. It was a classic day out of big adventure riding, almost entirely pedal powered, only the initial lift out of Chamonix and some hiker biking along the route interrupting the biking flow.

Morzine Activity Review: 7th September 2011

Although the weather is still giving the impression of high summer (lots of sunshine, blue skies and pleasantly warm temperatures), the summer season is drawing to a close. This last weekend the lifts on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil, accessed via Super Morzine, closed - the Pleney and Les Gets will follow this coming weekend.

Mountain Biking for Beginners

If there’s one sport that dominates the outdoor action in Morzine during summer, then it has to be the downhill mountain biking. With so many routes, bikes and lifts to choose from, coupled with the flocks of muddy, armoured men whizzing around town, the novice mountain biker might feel a little intimidated. So what’s a girl to do?

Morzine Activity Review: 15th June 2012

The weather is picking up nicely today and for the coming weekend and is forecast to stay warm and sunny into next week – happy days. The Pleney telecabine is now up and running and Les Gets is open this weekend and will stay open during the week for the rest of the season.

Morzine Activity Review: 6th June 2012

The summer season is almost upon us. I suppose technically it has already started as the Les Gets lifts have opened the last two weekends. We’ve been up there getting in some early season mileage under the knobbly tires on the excellent selection of trails now available under the Chavannes and Nauchets lifts.

Morzine

There's no end of spectacular walks and climbs around the Portes du Soleil but you'd be hard pressed to find any quite as challenging, fun and special as the Dent d'Oche ridge walk in the Abondance valley.

Morzine Activity Review: 21st July 2011

There was lots of two wheel action here in Morzine over the weekend but this time of the motorbike kind - the town playing host to a Harley Davidson festival. This is at least the second year the festival has been to Morzine but things were on a much grander scale this time with thousands in attendance, lots of stalls selling merchandise and many music events in the various bars around town culminating in the mighty Status Quo on Saturday night.

Fantasticable Review

Imagine for a minute soaring high above the mountains, with only the sound of the wind for company and with spectacular views rolling out for miles and miles beneath you. That’s exactly what you feel when on the Fantasticable Zipwire in Chatel. Admittedly that flying sensation is accompanied with a few other sensations as well...fear, panic, excitement and of course a bit more fear...

Still some snow

Morzine Activity Review: 13th May 2012

Winter seems a long time ago now although by gazing up at some of the peaks the evidence of this seasons bumper snow is still lingering about. The tops are still capped with snow and there are still some big patches lying around even on the lower elevations. If you happened to be stood at the top of the Coup du Monde black run in Avoriaz you would still get a great ski run down most of the way to the bottom of the Prodains telepherique.

Day trip adventure from France into Switzerland

It’s often tricky when you’re on holiday with children to find something that everyone wants to do. “I don’t want to go on another walk”, “I’m bored of climbing mountains”, “why can’t we go on the luge AGAIN?” It’s hard to please everyone. So when the family suggested taking a trip over the mountains to Switzerland, I was reticent. Surely it wouldn’t be that fun for the little ones? How wrong I was.
