So for the last few days, we’ve been helping you make the most of your holiday to the Portes du Soleil. We’ve been helping you find the sun and that all important holiday tan, we’ve helped you cool down in the shade with a nice glass of wine, we’ve found you a party and we’ve uncovered the summer of events here in the PDS. So what next? “There’s more?” I hear you say..

If you like a challenge, a thigh burner, a bit of a scramble and views to die for, this one’s for you.

Even before the snow disappeared and the pistes were shut, road cyclists were out in force across the Portes Du Soleil, making the most of the amazing weather we had in the last few weeks of the season. In the same way, we started to see more and more mountain bikes coming out of the woodwork giving us a little glimpse of what the area will look like in the summer.

Morzine and the surrounding area is a haven for skiing in the winter and cycling in the summer, but the fun doesn’t stop here. It’s a perfect place for family holidays with activities for every age. If you’re planning to bring your children, they won’t be bored!

The Trial des Hauts-Forts is a trail running race that takes competitors high above Morzine, all the way to Avoriaz with some of the most dramatic views of the Portes du Soleil. There are two different routes, one of 44km in length and a shorter 27km long race.

The Portes du Soleil is famous for its skiing, snowboarding and cycling, but it doesn’t stop there. You don’t have to hop on a bike to experience the incredible beauty of the region, simply put on your walking shoes.

Founded in 1987 in Tignes with a pioneering philosophy towards both teaching and service, Evolution 2 has grown over the years with offices throughout the French Alps.

Imagine for a minute soaring high above the mountains, with only the sound of the wind for company and with spectacular views rolling out for miles and miles beneath you. That’s exactly what you feel when on the Fantasticable Zipwire in Chatel. Admittedly that flying sensation is accompanied with a few other sensations as well...fear, panic, excitement and of course a bit more fear...

If there’s one sport that dominates the outdoor action in Morzine during summer, then it has to be the downhill mountain biking. With so many routes, bikes and lifts to choose from, coupled with the flocks of muddy, armoured men whizzing around town, the novice mountain biker might feel a little intimidated. So what’s a girl to do?

Morzine sits in a beautiful valley, surrounded by mountains, snowy peaks and rolling hills. The whole region is amazing for hiking and trail running and there’s no shortage of routes to choose from. However, the immediate skyline around the village is dominated by three peaks: Nantaux, Ressachaux and Nyon.

Going on an evening skidoo ride is one of the most popular things to do on a trip to Avoriaz. 

As I got out of bed this morning to start the working week I began to regret our decision to head through to Les Gets early on Sunday and to make the most of the day by riding from start to finish with only a 45 minute break...

There's no end of spectacular walks and climbs around the Portes du Soleil but you'd be hard pressed to find any quite as challenging, fun and special as the Dent d'Oche ridge walk in the Abondance valley.
