If there’s one sport that dominates the outdoor action in Morzine during summer, then it has to be the downhill mountain biking. With so many routes, bikes and lifts to choose from, coupled with the flocks of muddy, armoured men whizzing around town, the novice mountain biker might feel a little intimidated. So what’s a girl to do?

Paragliding is a great sport and the high cliffs of Avoriaz and the valley that forms the town of Morzine make the resort and ideal place for a flight. With that in mind I booked a session with Evolution 2 Ski and Adventure school in Avoriaz.

Even before the snow disappeared and the pistes were shut, road cyclists were out in force across the Portes Du Soleil, making the most of the amazing weather we had in the last few weeks of the season. Morzine is well know for its many cycling and hiking routes, not to mention its mountain biking. I was chatting with hairdresser Beckalina Stewart at the weekend and together we've come up with a list of alternative things you might want to try out in Morzine during the summer.

The Trial des Hauts-Forts is a trail running race that takes competitors high above Morzine, all the way to Avoriaz with some of the most dramatic views of the Portes du Soleil. There are two different routes, one of 44km in length and a shorter 27km long race.

What more could you want from a weekend of mountain biking in the Alps but sunshine, rain, mud, great people, great trails and a lot of cheese!

There’s no doubt that most people come to Morzine to experience the amazing snowboarding and skiing that the Portes du Solei has to offer, however hidden underneath the colourful maze of amazing pistes and runs, there’s a much more sedate activity you can do - snowshoeing.

An epic mountain bike ride to report upon today. Last week we made the journey from Chamonix to Morzine across some remote mountain terrain under deep blue skies. It was a classic day out of big adventure riding, almost entirely pedal powered, only the initial lift out of Chamonix and some hiker biking along the route interrupting the biking flow.
