An epic mountain bike ride to report upon today. Last week we made the journey from Chamonix to Morzine across some remote mountain terrain under deep blue skies. It was a classic day out of big adventure riding, almost entirely pedal powered, only the initial lift out of Chamonix and some hiker biking along the route interrupting the biking flow.

Although the weather is still giving the impression of high summer (lots of sunshine, blue skies and pleasantly warm temperatures), the summer season is drawing to a close. This last weekend the lifts on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil, accessed via Super Morzine, closed - the Pleney and Les Gets will follow this coming weekend.
I dare not look down. As I edge across a 10 centimetre wide plank of wood 100 feet above the ground, with only a cable to hang onto, I’m wondering what on earth I’ve got myself into...
“Let’s do it in a campervan” he said. “It’ll be amazing,” he said. And in fairness, for 85 percent of the trip, he’s been right. I’ll get to the other 15 percent shortly!

This weekend saw the 10th edition of the ever popular Pass'Portes du Soleil mountain bike festival which allows you access to around 650km of trails, via 20 lifts and 12 resort villages on route. We headed over to Chatel, the centre for this year's event, to see what was going on and to ride the route.
The weather is picking up nicely today and for the coming weekend and is forecast to stay warm and sunny into next week – happy days. The Pleney telecabine is now up and running and Les Gets is open this weekend and will stay open during the week for the rest of the season.
The Trial des Hauts-Forts is a trail running race that takes competitors high above Morzine, all the way to Avoriaz with some of the most dramatic views of the Portes du Soleil. There are two different routes, one of 44km in length and a shorter 27km long race.
It’s been the usual mixed bag of cycling activities for me of late. Some road biking and some mountain biking. The weather has been mostly set fine since my last report although it is raining as I type. Not to worry the forecast is for 100% sunshine tomorrow and highs of 27 degrees.
