Rhodos Restaurant Review

Your stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner, throughout the year

featured in Restaurant Reviews Author Alice Gregr, Morzine Reporter Updated

Rhodos is a no frills attached, lively, friendly place with a wide variety of choice on its popular and reasonably priced menu. It’s open throughout the year, making it a good place to go when everything shuts down for inter-season.

It sells coffee, continental breakfasts, baguettes and pastries from breakfast time and stays open right through to the end of the day, serving full meals, drinks and snacks.

Rhodos doesn’t just pride itself on its menu, throughout the week it has loads of evening activities on offer including a very popular pub quiz, free pool night and open mic evening. As if that wasn’t enough, everyone gets a prize at the pub quiz (even the losers!) and it’s 2 for 1 on Pizzas. What isn’t to like?

They regularly shows English sport matches too, so is a really well liked place by ex-pats, locals and tourists. It can get quite rowdy of an evening, so it’s not the place for a quiet romantic dinner, but if you’re looking for cheerful, tasty food with a lively atmosphere, Rhodos is perfect.

We were made to feel very welcome when we turned up, annoyingly for the staff, just 15 minutes before they stopped serving food at lunchtime. This wasn’t a problem for the waitress who was quick to take our order and make sure it was put through before the kitchen closed. She even brought out a bowl of water for our dog, which, by the way, was allowed inside. I’ve eaten here several times and haven’t been disappointed. Opting the first time for something you rarely find in France, a veggie burger!! It wasn’t your standard freezer style fake meat one, but instead one made from very tasty falafel with a generous serving of chips and salad. If you’re vegetarian and desperate for something that isn’t pure cheese, this is a really good option and extremely good value for money at around 14€.

More recently I opted for the Goats cheese salad, which had a very tasty honey dressing making it easy to polish off pretty quickly! He had the plat du jour for 11€ which was a very generous rack of ribs, chips and salad. He seemed happy enough and finished every mouthful. Both were really hearty meals and a very decent price. The Pizzas are also extremely popular – not just on quiz nights. They seem to go down a storm, with a wide choice of toppings and variety.

The menu mainly consists of burgers, salads and pizzas but also offers some more traditional Savoyard dishes, like charcuterie boards and French onion soup. It also has a specials menu, which changes frequently including a Sunday roast (with Yorkshire puds!) and a curry night. It really is trying to tempt in a mixture of clientele and seems to be succeeding. Lovers of afternoon tea are also provided for with a cake and hot drink offer between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

I’ve always found that there’s a good sense of camaraderie amongst the people who go to Rhodos, everyone seems to like getting to know each other and sharing stories over a pint or a coffee. The quiz can get very lively indeed! There’s something for everyone at this active central pub, and with a team of staff who are really going out of their way to make it a local favourite, it’s well worth a visit.
