Morzine Snow Report: 17 March 2014

Sunshine for St Patrick's Day in Morzine

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

We have had two weeks of sunshine and very warm temperatures in Morzine and the Portes du Soleil and in some places the slopes have started to suffer.

The conditions have been great and on the north-facing slopes, that are shaded from the strong sun, the snow is excellent. On the lower and sunnier pistes the snow is getting pretty slushy by the afternoon.

It has been great enjoying the sunshine and skiers this week will need to make sure they have a high factor sun cream or risk serious Panda-Eyes as the forecast is for more sunshine for most of this week.

The slopes are now quiet with the holidays finally over and it's now time for spring skiing and BBQ's.

Sally from the Snow Institute has been skiing over in Les Gets and sent us these details; "The conditions are definitively spring conditions in Morzine and Les gets at the moment. With no clouds in sight and a strong sun, the slopes are holding up very well. Firmer in the morning, beginning to soften towards mid day and edging towards slightly slushy in the afternoon, there is still some lovely skiing to be had with hero conditions on a lot of the runs at lunchtime. If you like skiing bumps, afternoon skiing is a must as they are very nice in the Ranfolly bowl at the moment."

The surrounding hills are starting to look quite bare but the pistes are all still complete. The sunshine is great but we'll need a few fresh centimetres and a drop in temperature before the end if we are going to be able to enjoy the pistes righ up 'til the end of April.
