Morzine Snow Report: 30th December 2013

Busy Pistes & Some Long Holiday Queues but Great Snow under Blue Skies

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Morzine Video Reporter Updated

Having spent a great day yesterday in Les Gets, today I headed up the Super Morzine bubble to the Avoriaz side of the Valley. Ten centimetres of snow came down last night and the skies were once again clear so all was set for a good day.

The snow is excellent on piste especially on the shallower slopes and where it has been groomed. Where the runs are steeper there are some pretty big moguls forming and some of the runs are quite lumpy. The quieter runs, and we found no queues today in the Fornet sector, are much better as are the gentler runs like the pistes in Mossettes.

I would still advise being very careful in the off piste. The avalanche risk is still 3/5 but the problem is that the snow is not deep enough to safely cover all the rocks. Michael Schumachers accident over the weekend is proof enough of that.

There are some big queues at the bottle necks but nothing that is not normal for this time of year. Although the lines look massive the lifties have been working hard to make sure that chairlifts do not leave half full.

The snow is great and the sun has been shining. On piste it has been a great day in the Portes du Soleil.
