Ski Touring on Mont Chery

featured in Snow report Author Phil Smith, Updated

As I mentioned in my latest report, we were heading up the mountain today to take advantage of the gloriously sunny weather and fresh snow. Our destination was Mont Chery, above Les Gets, and we got there via the wonders of touring skis. Setting off from the car park at the Col de l'Encrenaz we initially had to contend with crusty snow, which wouldn’t be nice to ski back down. But by the time we were on the Marmottes red run we were climbing up perfectly groomed piste.

Some 45 minutes later we were heading past the ends of the télésiège Chery Nord on our way to the 'table of orientation' at the summit. We were rewarded with stunning views all around, particularly in the direction of Mont Blanc. We could admire all the pisted runs dropping into Les Gets in the middle ground. Everything there looks ready for the weekend.

It was now time for the first of the more fun bits, a powder descent down the face of Mont Chery towards Les Gets. Everyone was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the snow. Not super light powder, a little firmer, our skis only sinking three or four inches down but it felt amazing to be back skiing again.
