Morzine has a calm, settled winter feel this week, with the village and surrounding area holding their snow well after the heavier falls earlier in January. The mountains above the valley look well filled in, and there is a steady mid winter rhythm to the resort now rather than anything rushed or changeable. Conditions on the slopes feel dependable and familiar, with good coverage across the area and a relaxed atmosphere both on and off the mountain.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are sitting at around 150 to 170cm on the upper slopes of the Portes du Soleil, with approximately 80 to 100cm in Morzine village. There has been little in the way of new snowfall over the past few days, though occasional light snow showers at altitude have helped keep surfaces fresh. Daytime temperatures higher up have been ranging between -5 and -2 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level hovering close to 1500m. Snow conditions are skiing well on higher terrain, particularly towards Avoriaz, with packed powder and well groomed pistes offering good grip. Lower runs into Morzine are firmer first thing and tend to soften slightly by early afternoon, especially on sunnier aspects. Winds have been generally light, with no significant impact on lift operations.
