Morzine heads into March with a calm and settled feel across the valley. Snow remains visible throughout the village and the slopes rising towards Avoriaz and the Nyon sector still carry a healthy base. The busy holiday weeks have passed and the pace on the mountain has eased slightly, leaving the pistes well maintained and the wider Portes du Soleil area skiing reliably as spring approaches.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 45 to 65 cm at resort level in Morzine at 1000 metres, with significantly deeper coverage higher up. At altitude above 2000 metres, depths are generally between 170 and 230 cm, particularly around the Avoriaz sector at 1800 metres and the higher terrain above. A light snowfall of around 5 to 10 cm has fallen recently on the upper slopes, improving the surface conditions across exposed areas and adding a fresh layer on top of an established base.
Temperatures have ranged from minus 9 to minus 4 degrees on the upper slopes and between minus 1 and plus 6 degrees in the village depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally sat between 1600 and 2000 metres during the day, dropping overnight which has helped preserve the quality of the pistes after grooming. Winds have been mostly light with occasional moderate gusts on the highest lifts but overall conditions have remained stable.
On piste, the best snow quality is found above 1800 metres where the surface remains firm and grippy for much of the day. North facing slopes around Avoriaz and the higher Portes du Soleil connections are holding particularly well. Lower runs back towards Morzine ski best during the morning before softening slightly during sunnier periods in the afternoon. Coverage across the main links between resorts remains dependable.
