Here we are back for another season and already can’t wait to make our first turns. Morzine is shaping up nicely ahead of its *partial pre-opening from 13 to 19 December, with full resort opening from 20 December right through to the 6th April 2026. The early snow has been impressive, and Morzine’s sister resort Avoriaz is even opening this weekend thanks to a hefty early snow dump.
In Morzine the slopes are piling up with another 46cm of fresh snow since 25 November and 10 cm forecast on Sunday. Temperatures are staying firmly cold, dropping to around -7°C on Sunday night, which should help the snow settle and give a solid base for the start of the season.
With this much early snow, the pistes are likely to be in excellent shape for first runs, especially higher up where the base is already looking solid. Off-piste enthusiasts will need to be cautious though, as fresh layers and wind slabs mean taking care is still important.
What’s new in Morzine this winter
While the snow is the main story, Morzine has a few new touches this winter. Two mountain huts are now open year-round, the Golèse refuge at 1,660 m and the Cabane du Col de Cou at 1,920 m, offering rooms, meals and spectacular views for hikers, snowshoers and cross-country skiers. Le Tremplin at Pleney has had a major facelift and opens this season with two floors, a large terrace and lively après-ski vibes. Food options have also expanded with Comptoir des Halles, Le Crépu and Les Halles by Le Crépu, giving visitors plenty of choice and cosy spots to relax after a day on the slopes.
The first event of the season is the Spartan Winter Trail Races, a challenging obstacle course over 10 or 21 kilometres, bringing a bit of action to the mountain in early December. With solid snow, new mountain huts, revamped restaurants and early-season races, Morzine is shaping up for a great start to the winter. Early visitors can expect fantastic skiing and a proper mountain atmosphere even before the full resort opens.
*partial pre-opening is subject to snow conditions and visitor numbers.
