La Grange Restaurant Review

Great Choice for Lunch or Dinner

Imprint
By Megan Wallwork, Updated

The terrace of La Grange restaurant offers a very quiet lunch spot, with a feeling of being a long way from the hustle and bustle of busy central Morzine, although it is actually situated a stone's throw from the square.

I followed the signs from the square to find myself before a very tempting board showing the day's specials. These included the plat du jour as well as a selection of salads, a savoyard meat platter and a croute all at an incredibly reasonable 11.50€.

A little spoilt for choice, I opted for the plat du jour of veal with mediterranean vegetables and a gratin dauphinoise, seeing an opportunity to try something a little different.

The service was very friendly; the waiting staff chatted with local regulars (whose presence is always a good sign!) as well as with the mix of french and english tourists.

My main arrived quickly and was beautifully presented, particularly the gratin which has clearly been prepared as an individual dish rather than a slice of a large gratin. The meat was tender and the mustard sauce very tasty.

The salads which I spotted at neighbouring tables looked to be very generous portions with a wide selections of interesting ingredients, whilst the mountain platter of salad, potatoes and cured hams looked like a great lunchtime option similar to a raclette.

Even after a hugely satisfying tasty main course, I couldn't resist the homemade brownie to follow. This was served warm with fresh strawberries, a strawberry coulis and whipped cream and was beautifully soft with a crisp top. The dessert of the day, or the alternative of 2 boules of ice cream, will only add 2€ to your lunchtime bill, so it's certainly not easy to say no!

Open in the evening and at lunchtime, La Grange is a great choice for trying some local specialities, or for treating yourself to a gastronomic meal with some lovely wine.
