Morzine has been completely reshaped by the recent snowfall, with the village and surrounding forests now feeling properly wintery. The mountains above the valley look full and well coated, and there is a noticeably calmer, more settled feel to the season after what has been a transformative few days of snow. Conditions on the slopes feel magical without being overwhelming, and it now feels like mid winter has properly arrived.
Snow depths are now around 160 to 180cm across the upper slopes of the Portes du Soleil, with approximately 90 to 110cm in Morzine village. The recent snowfall delivered between 50 and 80cm above 1800m since last Thursday, with solid accumulation even at lower elevations. This snowfall has significantly improved coverage across the entire ski area, with pistes skiing very well from top to bottom and soft, supportive snow on most runs. Daytime temperatures at altitude have been ranging between -6 and -3 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level close to 1200m, helping preserve snow quality. Winds were strong during the snowfall but have since eased, allowing lift operations to return to normal. Despite the excellent skiing conditions, the volume and intensity of recent snowfall have pushed avalanche risk to very high levels, particularly in off piste and uncontrolled terrain across the wider Portes du Soleil area.
The outlook for the coming days is mostly dry with a mix of cloud and brighter spells. Cold overnight temperatures are expected to help maintain current snow conditions, especially on lower runs into the village. Any further snowfall looks light and mainly focused on higher elevations later in the week. In resort, Morzine continues its winter programme with evening entertainment, village events and regular torchlight descents.
Skiing in Morzine is currently excellent across the mountain, with deep snow, strong coverage and high quality conditions on all pistes. Skiers should stay within marked and controlled areas, follow local safety guidance closely, and avoid off piste terrain unless accompanied by a fully qualified local guide due to the current very high avalanche risk.
