Snow Report, 5 December 2025

By Nye Erskine, Updated

Winter is settling in nicely across Morzine this week. Snow is building well at higher elevations, temperatures have stayed cold enough for the base to hold, and the forecasts are hinting at a little more snowfall soon. For anyone thinking about an early season escape, the signs are looking positive, especially on the upper slopes.

Snow and Weather Summary

Recent updates show that Morzine has seen about 46 cm of new snow since 25 November. A further 10 cm is forecast for Sunday which should help refresh the pistes. Across the wider area snow depth is looking promising. Champoussin, a nearby sector of the Portes du Soleil, is reporting around 120 cm at altitude and 70 cm on lower slopes. The week ahead brings a chance of light snow showers along with cold overnight temperatures. These conditions help preserve the snow and support snowmaking where needed.

What this means on the ground

Higher altitude runs and upper lifts are currently the most reliable for skiing with good coverage and decent surface quality. Fresh snow combined with cold nights gives the potential for crisp, enjoyable piste skiing, especially in the mornings. Lower slopes remain mixed. Snow cover may be thinner and more uneven, so these areas will likely improve as further snowfall arrives.

Outlook & What to Expect

Morzine's altitude means early season conditions can vary. However, this year is shaping up better than average at higher elevations but lower slopes will still need more snow before they become fully dependable.

Given current conditions you can expect:

Reliable early season skiing on higher lifts and prepared pistes

Patchier cover lower down that may rely more on snowmaking

Best results if you plan your day around the higher areas of the Portes du Soleil

With flexibility and good terrain choices, early December in Morzine can still offer enjoyable skiing and a great atmosphere in the resort.

What is Coming Up

The expected snowfall on Sunday should help refresh conditions and give the pistes a nicer feel underfoot.

Cold nights will continue to support snowmaking and help the existing base to settle.

As we move deeper into December the outlook becomes even more promising with more widespread snow expected across the Alps.

Snow Takeaway

If you are planning a trip soon, Morzine is off to a decent early season start. The best skiing will be higher up and conditions there should hold well thanks to the cold weather. Lower slopes will improve with the next round of snowfall so keep an eye on webcams and lift openings.
