Snow Report, 7 January 2026

By Nye Erskine, Updated

Morzine feels properly wintry this week with cold mornings in the village and a settled feel across the Portes du Soleil. The surrounding slopes look well covered higher up, while the trees down towards resort level add a classic alpine backdrop even where snow is thinner. The season is building steadily rather than dramatically, and conditions right now reward skiers who are happy to follow the snow to the best elevations and aspects.

Snow and Weather Summary

Snow depths across the Morzine sector are sitting at around 25 to 40cm in the village and approximately 90 to 140cm on the upper slopes. There has been a small amount of snowfall over the past week, mostly affecting higher terrain, with little change at lower levels. Temperatures have remained cold for early January, with freezing levels generally hovering between 700m and 1000m and daytime highs in resort staying close to zero. Winds have been mostly light, helping lift operations remain stable across the area. Skiing is best above mid mountain where the snow remains firm and cold, particularly on north facing pistes. Lower runs can be hard early in the day and soften slightly in the afternoons when the sun appears, but coverage remains adequate on main routes.

Outlook & What’s On

The outlook for the coming days suggests mostly dry weather with cold nights and the welcome chance of snowfall later in the week, mainly above 1500m. These conditions should help preserve the existing snowpack, though significant fresh snow is not expected immediately. Morzine continues its regular winter programme with outdoor skating, guided snowshoe walks and evening entertainment in the village centre. Early January also brings family focused activities and events organised by the local tourist office, adding life to the resort without the peak holiday crowds.

Snow Takeaway

Overall conditions in Morzine are stable and skiable, with the best snow found higher up in the ski area. Focus on upper lifts and shaded slopes for the most consistent skiing, and aim for mid morning starts once lower pistes have softened slightly.
