The sun is out and its here to stay all week with barely a cloud in sight!

Spring is truly on its way, with temperatures this week reaching a balmy 5 degrees C down in Morzine town it’s the time to shed a thermal layer, get the sun cream out and make the most the bluebird days.

Piste conditions across the Portes Du Soleil are excellent, apart from a few windswept patches of ice on some high, exposed areas, and anyone who’s just arrived can be sure that its going to be a great week of skiing and snowboarding ahead.

The past week in resort has been a clear and sunny one with only a day or two of unfriendly winds. The slopes received a nice little dump of fresh snow on Wednesday, which treated guests to one day of some real powder runs on a week where the slush started to appear most afternoons. Thursday saw many lifts up in Avoriaz close due to high winds, causing big queues at many of the main lifts around resort. Understandably, many people simply retired to their chalets early in the afternoon rather than battling the elements and the queues, and enjoyed a full day of skiing in the bluebird sunny weather on Friday.

The weather looks to follow a similar pattern this week, although guests and locals will be pleased to know the wind won’t be a threat to your ski time. Early starts are the name of the game in these warm temperatures, because once lunch is over the snow will be slushy and slower under ski (snowboarder’s will have no problem surfing all the slush though!), so we’d recommend making the most of your mornings and enjoying a nice long lunch in the sun.

Some of our favourite lunch spots in the Portes Du Soleil include La Païka on the La Turche slope in Les Gets, where you can sit down on their sun-catcher terrace and enjoy succulent meat, seafood and vegetable kebabs smoked on an open wood fire grill before choosing from their glistening buffet of French patisserie desserts. It’s not the cheapest option, but La Païka by far one of the best mountain lunch restaurants around. If you’re looking for a fantastic view, why not visit the Cookie Café up at Mosettes 2227m, where you can soak up the sun and spectacular views while getting your fill from one of their Cookie Monster Burgers.

If you’ve not got much cash to splash, join the season workers and locals and head to Carrefour Montagne in centre of Avoriaz for a cold can to drink and a cheap, cheerful and filling pasta box – they’ve eaten got a microwave so you can enjoy it hot.

Last but not least, don’t forget the sun cream this week. We know that your after a google tan, but it’s not worth getting a burnt face for!
