In the heart of the French Alps, in the village of Les Gets, experience a night walk in an enchanted forest like no other. Set off along the path of a travelling music-maker and his hot-air balloon, and follow his incredible journey beyond the mountains.
Follow the road north out of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps, take the road towards Saint-Martin. Just over the La Tassonniere bridge you will see the start of the trail. Follow this path along the river Dranse and through the hamlets of Les Girauds and Ombre, here you will find many traditional mountain chalets. Cross the road at Les Rossets hamlet and walk to Le Sey on the lane at the edge of the Alpine meadows.
On the outskirts of Le Sey, the lane becomes a forest track. Once through the forest, there's a lovely view of La Baume church, Jotty lake and Mont Ouzon. The route continues downhill to La Baume via Lea Geydets, through Couvaloup, before crossing the river at Couvaloup bridge. Keep going until you reach Le Biot.
Continue through Le Biot village and out the other side past Les Cottes hamlet. The route to Jean d'Aulps continues past an oratory and uphill through woods. After a few sharp bends on the downhill section, you will come across Saint-Guerins oratory on your left. Continue walking to Bas Thex hamlet and down to the bridge at La Tassonniere where you started.
