Morzine Apres Ski Report: 4th April 2013
A Morzine Hen Night…
For quite a few months now I’ve been planning a Morzine hen night for my mate. ‘An easy job’ you might think - this is a ski resort after all. Well let me tell you, it wasn't easy but it was jolly good fun.
On Tuesday last week twenty of us donned our Retro Rentals 80’s inspired onesie ski gear and headed up to Avoriaz for some hen do attention. En route we bumped into no fewer than three other groups of girls, doing exactly the same thing. Is Morzine-Avoriaz the new Blackpool I asked myself? Mind you, those bold coloured onesies came in handy in the fog that hung over the resort all day.
The morning consisted of less skiing, more vin chaud drinking and keeping the group together was much more challenging than I’d anticipated. Restaurant Chez Flo did us proud at lunchtime despite being super busy and several non-skiers joined us there.
Apres drinks at Shooters Bar and Le Tavaillon in Avoriaz were good fun and we sensibly managed to navigate ourselves back to the top of the Prodains gondola lift, rather than tackle Le Crot homerun after several shots of Jager.
Back in Morzine, and after a quick pit stop to shed our delightful onesies and bolstered by an increased number of hens, we headed for dinner at L’Etale, which is great for large groups. If at this stage you’re wondering what our ski run to meal ratio was during this hen day, it was exactly 2:2. I’d arranged a bowl big party punch for us all at Le Tibetan Café after dinner and Tony graciously handled our ridiculous musical requests. I think it’s fair to say that a lot of fun was had by all!
By comparison this week has been relatively tame on the après front. The locals favourite Mont Chery has now closed, despite having a full covering of snow from top to bottom, which is a real shame. And new closing parties are popping up here, there and everywhere.
More on those next week!
