New year, new snow! Oh yes and we can see plenty of new snow in the forecast. When we put together the snow report last week, it was a strange mixture of snow and rain throughout the mid and lower levels of Morzine. Amazingly, the warm temperatures and rain have not totally destroyed the snow conditions and the piste groomers have been doing an incredible job keeping a few of the lower pistes skiable. Now things are looking up as temperatures drop and good new snowfall is forecast.
So after a week of milder temperatures and a distinct lack of new snow, it is really good to be able to report that we are looking forward to the isotherm dropping from Saturday and big dumps of snow from Sunday.
Morzine is currently forecast to get 23cm of snow on Sunday at around 2000m and another 10cm on Monday, with maybe another wave of snow coming through on Wednesday. The minimum temperatures will drop to around -8°C with the freezing level down to around 800m by Monday.
So hang in there for another few days and fingers crossed we will all be rewarded for our patience!
Check below and before you go out each day for the current lift status as certain connecting lifts to Avoriaz may not be open every day. This week, Les Gets and Morzine are only selling one day passes each day until the conditions improve, however you can go up to Avoriaz and there is a good shuttle bus network operating from Les Gets and Morzine. As you can see from the photo above taken today at the top of Pleney lift, the area is open for debutantes.
