Morzine is the biggest of the towns and villages in the Portes du Soleil ski area. It feels more like a town than a resort, with its historical buildings and weekly market. Morzine spreads out along the valley for a couple of kilometres and has a wide choice of accommodation options for all budgets. Les Gets is often spoken about in the same breath as Morzine, this is because they both access the same ski area. Les Gets is smaller than Morzine and consists of pretty chalets amongst wooded hillsides.
Montriond lies on the other side of the river from Morzine and is a small village with fewer facilities. A ski bus connects you to ski lifts in Morzine and Ardent. The village of Les Lindarets is only accessible by lift during the winter season and lies at the top of the Ardent lift. Further up the mountain from Morzine is the purpose-built resort of Avoriaz. Avoriaz is good to stay in if you want easy access to the rest of the Portes du Soleil ski area, as it sits right in the middle. Other villages close by include Chatel, a traditional French ski resort that also has great access into both French and Swiss sides of the Portes du Soleil ski area, and St Jean d'Aups, a smaller village with its own separate ski area. See how it's all connected on our Maps page.
